Justin Trudeau [like many of us] is the [great x10!]grandchild of colonizers…
Justin Trudeau is a man.
These two things mean Justin Trudeau is damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t, WRT these rogue Liberal MPs… and I use the term Liberal quite loosely.
That’s not to say that Justin Trudeau hasn’t had options…
- Justin Trudeau could have turfed Jody Wilson-Raybould from Justice and Attorney General, back in mid-January 2019, instead of shuffling her to Veterans Affairs.1
- Justin Trudeau could have ousted Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott, earlier in March 2019, from the Liberal Caucus.2 3 4
It’s the optics that aren’t great b/c neither of the above would reflect Justin Trudeau’s commitment to Feminism, specifically gender equality, gender parity, diversity, nor his commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
Truly, Justin Trudeau is damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t… even if his fellow Liberal MPs turf Jody Wilson-Raybould and/or Jane Philpott from Caucus in early April 2019, or if either women resigns of their own volition from Liberal Caucus.
It’s impossible—and very unfortunate—to avoid Opposition [CPC + NDP] comments about misogyny, etc., even though Justin Trudeau is the only Prime Minister to ever truly advance women’s issues and Indigenous affairs.
